York County Local Food Summit

Penn State Extension–York has partnered with the York City Bureau of Health, the York Chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local, Sonnewald Natural Foods, YorKitchen, Sunnyside Farm, Spoutwood Farm and Wellspan Health to host The York County Local Food Summit, November 7, at the York County 4-H Center, in York. The event will bring food producers, distributors, processors, retailers, wholesalers, agencies, nonprofits, schools, educators and government representatives together to discuss creating a sustainable and localized food system in York County.

The keynote speaker will be filmmaker Ana Sofia Joanes, director and producer of Fresh. The film celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business owners that are reinventing the American food system. Among those featured in Fresh are farmer-entrepreneur Joel Salatin, best-selling author Michael Pollan and urban farm pioneer Will Allen. Breakout session topics addressed by the summit will be Building a Local Food System, Community Gardening with Youth, a Wholesale Food Distribution Roundtable, Funding Local Food Systems and The Politics of Local Food Policy.
