Hair stylist Jaime Freet and Shaina Reisman, an aesthetician and makeup artist, of AVEDA-concept Tranquility Salon and Wellness Center, in Carlisle, recently returned from the action-filled Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014, in New York City. Designers from all over the world attend the fall and spring shows each year to present their designs and looks for the upcoming season.

Reisman and Freet assisted backstage as members of the AVEDA styling and makeup team, preparing models to showcase the looks. “It was good experience working as a team,” says Freet, a returning lead stylist for the AVEDA team. “Sometimes we only had five minutes to get a model ready and four people would jump in, working together to create one look.” They both agreed this was valuable training for working with their clientele at the salon, where often they are presented with a picture and must give the client a desired look in an allotted appointment time slot.

Tranquility Salon uses AVEDA products, a line of hair and beauty products that strives to use sustainable, plant-based alternatives to replace petrochemicals. Freet says that sometimes clients question whether the high-quality AVEDA products that are good for them will work or not. “These all-natural products are used by industry experts for editorial [fashion magazines and advertising] and during fashion week to achieve high-fashion looks,” she says.

The basis of the AVEDA concept is education. Reisman was invited to Fashion Week after attending a two-day makeup workshop in August. Freet was invited back as a lead stylist for the team this year after completing an advanced styling class. “We’re always keeping up with the new looks and techniques and current trends,” Freet says. “We have the training to give clients a modern and stylish look.” Reisman also offers waxing and facials, that include focus treatments to address acne, fine lines, dark spots or other skin problems.

As a full service salon, Tranquility also offers Pennsylvania's first Himalayan salt cave, ionic foot detox cleanse, massage therapy, ear candling and an oxygen bar.
