Roots of Health Adding Animal-Assisted Therapy

The Roots of Health offers CranioSacral
Therapy, therapeutic massage and reiki. Lady, a 2-year-old female setter mix
dog, is in training to be a therapy dog "co-therapist" with Rachel
Benbow, CST-T, LMT, MLIS, at the Roots of Health. Benefits of animal-assisted
therapy include; emotion recognition/regulation; reduction of anxiety/stress; decrease
depression; ability to address grief/loss issues; reduction of blood pressure; self-esteem
enhancement; improve emotional and behavioral problems; improved socialization
and improved ability to trust.
Because Lady is an animal, her behavior
cannot always be predictable. Therefore, it is important to discuss the rules
needed to insure safety and health. Rachel's clients will be asked to sign a
copy of a consent and release form at the office. Ian's therapy room will be
kept dog-free in order to accommodate client needs.
